A Mother Says...
Written by Kanthi Meda, whose sons came on the Summer Tons Adventure 2015.
You had asked for a feedback after a month, on the changes I noticed after the trek in my boys. I will begin with what they told their dad as soon as they came back. Verbatim: "On the first expedition each of us showed lots of attitude and we all wanted the rest to follow what we said. Because of that so many things we forgot to carry. In the next expedition we assigned specific work to each and the expedition was better."
These words, to me, meant that the whole exercise was worth the effort. No book, no class could have taught them that. I hope this lesson sticks. I hope they will be open to more expeditions like this.
I also learned that my boys have no problem not taking a bath for ten days but have a problem answering the call of nature in the open. My older son Sai Ganesh told me he was the cook and the younger one Sai Sanjay told me he volunteered for everything. Sanjay said he didn't want to cook because he was afraid his cooking may cause food poisoning and he didn't navigate because he was worried he would lead the group astray.
It's been a month now and I can see some minuscule changes in them. They are more independent. They read instructions and make small snacks and soups for themselves. I also think they have a better understanding about themselves and their friends. There are some slight changes in the attitudes and are more understanding when things are explained.
